Book Review: GURPS Power-Ups 8: Limitations


As both a game designer and a gamemaster I found this book immensely useful. It's enshrined in the official cannon rules I've been using for a while now, but it's still quite helpful! What's more it finally calls out something I've always known, but have gotten "looks" for: coming up with a limitation is sometimes more art than science. More gut than math. Other than that it gives a useful list of various limitations from all of the books to date. One thing I really like is the section on "Limitations on Disadvantages." Some builds that were more complicated than they needed to be suddenly become quite easy with these new rules. Overall, if you're a system tinker, game designer, or just a completest it's worth grabbing for the mere $6 price-tag.


  1. Just a suggestion, but you know you can link to the book's page with a button click on the picture of the cover? I just tried to go look at it in w23, but yeah. I was holding off on this one, but I think I'm going to pick it up now, while I still have a little discretionary money lying around.

  2. I was slightly disappointed after picking this up- it covered very little new ground that I could drop into play immediately without having to tinker.
