Dungeon Fantasy Aersalus – B-Team – Session 3

Dramatis Personae

  • Fyadhiel, Elven Scout (386 points) (played by +Douglas Cole): An elvish warmaster sent on a quest to be more humane. It’s not working. Tagline: “Just Damn Better than you.”
  • Gaffer, Gremian Artificer (428 points) (played by +Christopher D.): Boom Squirrel. Tagline: “Stop damaging your gear! I’m the one that has to repair it.”
  • Galen Fallowhide, Halfling Scholar (Physick)/Cleric of Healing (385 points) (player by +Christian G.): He’s a doctor (but not a cannibal) that can heal with steel. He’s small, but deadly and a bit crazy. Tagline: “How many times have I healed you? Let me count the holes.”
  • Ryeleah Lopek, Human Wizard (358 points) (played by +Merlin A.): TBA. Tagline: “TBA”
  • Waraxe Mandrake, Dwarven Knight (350 points) (played by +Rob K.): A solid dwarf with miscellaneous scars and a long red beard. Usually seen in well-maintained (ahem) dwarven armor, and with Lydia, a rather large dwarven waraxe. Tagline: “Pass the beer and look out for the axe.”
  • Maxion “Twerp” Lopek, Human Cultist (Wizard) (84 points) (NPC): Twerp is a human boy (about 11, he’s not sure since his mother didn’t keep track) who dreams of one day becoming an auric knight and finally making his mother proud. Son of Ryeleah. Tagline: “Gee, I don’t know if that’s a good idea, mom.”
  • Ransolar “Ran” Khaban, Humanish Minotuar (Bard) (??? points) (NPC): Ran is an incorrigible con man, thief, and dangerous fighter. Tagline: He’s a cow boy, on a steel horse he rides. Wanted. Dead or Alive.

Previously . . .

Fyadhiel was looking at a chimney thingy, and slipped and fell, taking some damage, a little bit protected by his armor. He falls on his right arm, but thanks to the armor protection his arm is not crippled. .

Orcsies and Wargsies

Fyadhiel and Ryeleah Lopek
??? (First Month), 22nd, 981 F.R., 2nd Hour of the Moon (8:00 pm)
Outside of Camaronok, Dancorra Bay, Abolethe (“The Span”)

Ryeleah goes to the front, invisible, sees wargs – big ugly mutated thingies. She casts Summon Spirit and gets a blue glowing cat . . . she summoned a curiosity spirit. She tries to convince it to go distract the wargs; she offers it fish, and it holds up four claws. It rubs up against her legs, purring, and she gets the sense that she’s agreed to some kind of pact. The cat spirit goes and “rwarrrs” at the dire wolves, then takes off. Twenty different wargs go running after it; the cat starts to run up into the air. Ryleah sneaks in as 15-16 orcs come rushing out after the worgs.

Meanwhile, Fyadheil sees a couple of guys in chains. He goes to check them out; they’re secured pretty well into mining carts. He sees a couple of orc guards. Stepping around the corner from one, he drills the other one badly in the head. This ends the Invisibility spell that Ryeleah had cast earlier. He steps back and quickly fires at the other guy, hitting the orc in the kidney, but the orc stays standing. A second shot misses. The orc screams, charging at Fyadhiel. The elf fast-draws his katana, but misses. The orc swings back . . . and misses horribly. (GM Note: This was three 17s rolled in a row by myself an the player.) Fyadhiel attacks again, but the blow is parried. Fyadhiel swings his katana yet again, cutting into the orc, who stays up, swinging back; Fyahdiel fails to parry (another 17), and drops his weapon in so doing. A few points of damage penetrates his armor (3 points of cutting). Fyadhiel steps back, fast-draws his bow and an arrow. He shoots for the vitals again, and finally kills the orc.

Ryeleah continues to sneak in, catches up with Fyadhiel. They start to free the two prisoners while Fyadhiel tries to fast-talk Ryeleah about why there’s a sword on the ground – he was killing an evil earth spirit. One of the chained-up prisoners says otherwise . . . Claims that Fyadhiel and the orc were having a tender moment. Ryeleah wants to know more . . . the guy claims to be a bard and appears to be a humanish minotaur. Fyadhiel instantly hates him.

Two more orcs come running in. Fyadhiel lets an arrow loose at each one. One dodges, but the other is hit, and dies. The other rushes him, and doesn’t hit. Fyadhiel steps back and shoots the orc in the eye; the orc goes down. Hard. The bard wants to go get his stuff; Ryeleah says that the orcs will be back soon. The bard reveals that Fyadhiel has killed the son of the leader. They hear the sound of wargs coming back. The bard says that as soon as they get outside, he has something that can help. They head back to the hole, the bard carrying the other (unconscious) prisoner. Ryeleah uses Apportation and lots of FP to lift everybody out of the shaft that Fyadhiel fell down. “Remember, my services require four fish!” Ryeleah calls as they levitate out.

At the top of the mountain, the bard pulls a small steel figurine out of his pocket. The bard says something to it, and it turns into a horse, a big horse.  They all mount up. They head back to town, quite fast.

BACK TO TOWN

Fyadhiel, Gaffer, Galen Fallowhide, Ryeleah Lopek, and Waraxe Mandrake
??? (First Month), 22nd, 981 F.R., 4th Hour of the Moon (10:00 pm)
Camaronok, Dancorra Bay, Abolethe (“The Span”)

The bard has horns on his head; he’s a human-seeming minotaur, and a male. This is very rare for human-seeming minotaurs. Most human-seeming minotaurs are female. His name: Ransolar “Ran” Khaban. He’s a cow boy and on a steel horse he rides. Waraxe asks Ryeleah to explain why he wants four fish. Ryeleah tells the story, with interjections from Fyadhiel, and nobody really knows what’s going on. The bard conjures some fish out of nearby water. Ran tells us that he had a disagreement with some folks back east in the Empire (mild disagreement with a merchant’s daughter whom he may have accidentally said he was going to marry). The orcs were sent to bring him back.

Waraxe goes looking for townsfolk to see if anybody knows who this unconscious person is. Nobody knows. Ryeleah searches him; he’s wearing robes. Galen tries to patch up the guy, and Gaffer, offended by the condition of the man’s robes, patches them up. They believe he’s a mage. There was a ring in the mage’s gear (which was in a bag of stuff taken the orcs had). Ryeleah tries to cast Analyze Magic on it; it’s a really weird enchantment, and can’t figure out what it is.

Ran says that he was just a side job; they were looking for another guy; they really wanted him, he’s apparently worth a lot of money. Apparently it’s an imperial wizard, who knows how to enchant weapons, armor, etc.

Moar Orcsies and Wargsies

Fyadhiel and Ryeleah Lopek
??? (First Month), 23rd, 981 F.R., 6th Hour of the Sun (12:00 pm)
Outside of Camaronok, Dancorra Bay, Abolethe (“The Span”)

The PCs go to attack the orcs the next day. There are barricades up front. Gaffer, Invisible thanks to Ryeleah, sneaks over to the cart, loads up the front with alchemist’s fire, and greases the wheels. The cart goes sliding, and explodes away a bit of the barrier. The PCs enter combat.

The PCS kill lots of orcs and worgs. Lots of combat. Among other things, Fyadhiel shoots a warg; the arrow completely destroys the warg, goes through it, hits the orc leader, and kills the orc leader. (Critical hit to the kidneys, critical hit table is triple damage… 144 points of damage that causes overpenetration after accounting for the vitals x3 multuplier and the critical hit multiplier.) Twerp foolishly runs right into combat; the PCs need to have a talk with that boy. He does a little bit of damage, but then gets charged by a wolf (whom he dodges) but then shot in the head with an arrow. Even more combat. Many orcs slain. Twerp goes unconscious. Galen goes to -1xHP. Eventually a priest shows up and dcasts Mind Control at Waraxe, but he makes his Fright Check. Ryeleah shouts for them to surrender, and they start to run to the back of the cave (the ones outside just flee).

Aftermath

Suddenly, then, the ground starts shaking, and the PCs hear an inhuman roar….

After Action Report (GM)

The battle was pretty massive with over 50 combatants including the PCs and more or less took up the entire session. I should have taken more notes on the damage dealt, the combat itself, and so on. Overall, a good session and much fun was had.

Footnotes

None.
