Previously . . .
When we last left off, Cassandra had gotten a raise through Thanatos’s negotiations. Nyx realized that the GPS tracker was a custom job done by Wayne Santos, and Thanatos got the paperwork about all the incidents regarding the purple-eye afflictions. They’re going to let Rikers ship the documents their way while they go visit Wayne on the down low, electing not to take the Vanguard VTOL and instead would have to take the FBI looking van. Deciding that would be better to take some public transportation, calling a “Kluub” to get them there.

With Marduk sitting in front smiling straight at the driver and asking inane questions, Nyx promises the man a five star rating as long as the driver entertains Marduk’s questions. Things come to a head when Marduk turns the radio on to a station full of static and Amar suggests dropping by a pizza place in case they get into some kind of conflict.. They get to Wayne’s place within about a half hour, a small place called Santos’ Radio and Electronics, an old looking place with bars on the windows and a rather extension security setup. Nyx suggests they wait outside in the Kluub while he speaks with Wayne.
Walking in, the shop is rather cramped with ghetto blasters mixed with modern speakers and radios. If there’s a speaker or has a wire on it, then it’s in a shop. If it was a TV show, he’d be on Hoarders with random stacks of electronics. Nyx only knows the guy by reputation, he’s the guy to come to for GPS tracking a cheating wife and is rather skeevy and short with a Napoleon complex.
Asking about things to track people, Wayne informs him that it’s illegal to do that in the state of New York and is required to tell him that by law. And then he leans forwards and asks if Nyx is a cop. A couple reassurances later and Nyx is shown some GPS trackers in the back room. Seeing several types, including one which looks similar to the one in Nyx’s pocket. He’s shown how they’re tracked via a private website accessed only by an IP number. It’s at this moment that Nyx realizes that they never turned off the one they got from the truck as several purple coiffed individuals surround the Kluub.
With a crack, they fire at Thanatos hitting him in the torso before they light up the car hitting Marduk and Amar but missing the driver. Inside the store, Wayne hears the shots and with a bit of warning from Nyx, heads into his panic room while Nyx melts to the floor into his shadow form. Outside, Amar grasps the mook that shot at him through the window, grabbing him and pulling him toward the car slamming the man’s head against the car frame knocking him out. Thanatos reaches out and draws back the life energy he just lost from the man that shot him, dropping him to the ground as well. Marduk, needing some health back, drains the car battery and drops into lightning form, while politely informing the driver that he needs a snack.
Nyx warps onto the rooftop, investigating the situation and finding four men still around the car. He throws a shadow binding at the man with his back to the store, and neutralizing him. A mook firing at Marduk gets the round blasted out of midair with a bolt of lightning. A barrage of bullets heads for Thanatos, missing him. Doing some impressive armwork, Amar throws the unconscious man he’s still holding at another minion that dodges the rather large projectile. Thanatos drains another man, though not to the point where he’s dropped.
Marduk stuns another thug while Nyx throws another shadow bind at a different thug while the last one standing kneecaps Thanatos. Amar springs out the broken window and grabs the remaining thug, immobilizing them. With the folks now immobilized, Soul Cage reappears in all his purple glory. Nyx passes out from the aura while the rest of the group trades quips with Soul Cage. Forcing them to strike against one of their own, Soul Cage dives into the driver which Marduk immediately stuns. Nyx wakes up two minutes later and immediately warps into the panic room to find that Wayne is alright and panicking from what’s going on on the cameras.
Nyx manages to scare Wayne accidentally before convincing him to follow along because they obviously think that Wayne has snitched on them. Coming out with Wayne, the driver is still stunned from Marduk and cops are taking the purple men away. The purple men come to and find themselves outside the car with no memory and in purple suits with guns. The suits are obviously custom made and Nyx wonders how hard it would be to get that sort of clothing in that shade of purple. Having Wayne shut down the tracker, he tells the group that he sold the thing to a Mexican man. Asking if he’ll contact the man that did the computer site tracking, Wayne agrees. They shove the driver in the back of the SUV and borrow it as they’re paying for the ride anyhow.

Drew’s Auto

They pull up to a shuttered autoshop where Thanatos detects a lot of pigeon life. Wayne speaks with the computer guy, Drew, and Thanatos convinces the hacker to help stick it to the man. Opening the garage door, they pull the car in and then get hit with a degaussing wand to kill electromagnetic frequencies and get told to drop anything electronic at the door. Amar takes the time to repair the car while in the back of the SUV the words “5 stars” can be heard.
Drew comes in and speaks with them telling them that it’s been consistently accessed from Precinct 19. Nyx asks for him to drill it down further and get the mac address to uniquely identify the computer. This means that they need to somehow get into the precinct server room and narrow down where it’s located within. In the shop, Amar has repaired and pimped out the Kluub Ride while the driver is set into a chair in the corner where he remains unconscious. Drew and Amar ends up doing car talk for another twenty minutes as Amar triples the value of the SUV and Drew offers them some MREs or SPAM for the road which some of them cheerily accepts.
They wake up the driver, Darryl Bell, to unveil the car and repeatedly tell him that they love him and his service and they’re going to rate him five stars. Darryl is flabbergasted at the work and Thanatos calls up some of the board members again to check to see if they have it in the budget to hire a driver for the team before convincing Darryl to come onto the team for five stars everyday! They get Wayne to give them footage of the men that bought the transmitter for proper compensation, with Drew getting pictures of the man and the car that the man came in, a beige sedan that screams undercover cop.
Aftermath
They end up heading back towards HQ to get the Kluub ride finished, the meter having been going for over six hours. Cassandra’s eye twitch evolves to mega form.
After Action Report (GM)
So I finally had goons in attire similar to a man “boss” villain. I mean, AEON is a mostly serious take on the supers genre with a few odds and ends, but I had to. Soul Cage is just so over the top he’d definitely make his mind-controlled minions wear purple clothing. Overall, fun session with my first abstract combat in B-Team in a while. Forgot how fast that can be when you know the rules well enough.
Other Notes
None.
Soundtrack
“Calcutta (Taxi, Taxi, Taxi)” by Dr. Bombay (Opening Song)
“Groove is in the Heart” by Deee-Lite (In Waynes)
