Previously . . .
The team has been following the group of intruders after they have disembarked the vessel. With the sun going into golden hour. The group they’re following are obviously wearing rather form fitting suits that are projecting some kind of illusion of normal appearance though they’re radiating kyberic energy enough to track. They’ve headed towards a commercial building that’s currently for rent, going around to the side before they group has a chance to see how they entered. Fiona goes straight to the front door to see if it opens at all, which it does. She sticks her head inside, looks around, calls out. Inside is just dust and furniture left from previous tenants. In case of cameras, she looks around ostentatiously before closing the door and walking away.

She walks around the side towards an alleyway where the group of invaders have disappeared to a door. Fiona just walks boldly through the door only for her powers to overload and turns into a puddle of water that’s mostly holding together by surface tension. Harvey and Flit bicker in the doorway for some time about how to get Fiona out when they’re surprised by Flit’s left arm getting disintegrated completely from a beam coming from inside the building up a stairway, still awake and screaming. Harvey is next as the beam of light smashes into his chest, knocking him backwards two yards but no other damage.
The other side of the door is a small maintenance room with a doorway leading elsewhere and a small hallway. Harlowe starts by setting up barricades with the first one going into the room, with some kind of consistent and constant interference keeping it from forming completely. He reflexively activates his Force Armor and Force Shield before scooping Fiona out with his flyrokinesis and setting a more solid force field out the back door. The Fiona puddle has Fiona’s face emerge from it but not much else at the moment. Flit screams and rolls away from the doorway while Harvey moves off to the side along with Gigajewel who summons a crackling electrical field. Towards the doorway, they see a large dog-like bot with two lasers on its back come running up and bursting the rather inconsistent forcefield all the way up to the threshold before trying to burst the one outside the door to no avail.
Harlowe fills the room with a permeable force field to no avail, the second attempt to create a force field does nothing so he steps up to the door jam while forming a polearm with a force field and jabbing at the machine. Flit teleports over to Harvey while still on the ground, whining to get sprayed with healing spray. Fiona finally snaps from her fugue and spends a second getting herself together. Harvey fast-draws his healing spray and sprays down Flit. Gigajewel does a pop-out shot by throwing an electrical bolt into the room to no avail. The robot’s shoulders unfold revealing a cannon that launches a grenade at the same moment that Harlowe parries it. The grenade explodes inside the room causing the wall to disintegrate along with Harlowe’s force field as two more octobots drop from the side of the wall firing at the group.
Harlowe starts barking orders at Flit, telling her to get up to a rooftop and find a water tower and tells Fiona to introduce herself in case they stop attacking before setting up more forcefields for protection. Flit gets to the rooftop and locates a water tower a few hundred yards away. Fiona stands up, introduces herself as being of Atlantean blood and then immediately attacks with water, knocking both in the alley back. Harvey fires at one of the bots down the alley, striking several times. The bots, meanwhile, fire their grenade cannons at the group, though one of them had forgotten to actually deploy it and it explodes inside as the one inside retreats.
Harlowe swaps to his force wave and knocks the remaining bot in the alley upsidedown only for it to rotate its limbs 180 degrees and stand back up, only for Harlowe to knock it over again before placing a force field bubble around it. Flit attacks the standing bot in the alleyway by teleporting away important mechanical parts as Fiona does another jet of water knocking the bot into Harlowe’s rather bouncy force fields causing it go into a spin cycle. Harvey steps forwards and fires at the bot retreating down the hallway, hitting something critical and causing it to beep loudly and disintegrate. Gigajewel takes out the last one with an electrical bolt causing it to self-destruct as well.
Fiona investigates the wall that was disintegrated by a grenade to see if the power nullification field was due to some intrinsic property of the property or if it’s a device inside. Harlowe asks Harvey how much power one of these fields would theoretically take to power. Being told that it’d take more power than the grid would supply. Harlowe asks Gigajewel where the greatest electrical drain was coming from and she points out something on the wall inside the electrical room and with a pop and sizzle the feeling in the air starts receding as she removes the battery and points out the disc on the wall that the field comes from. They waste some time arguing what to do with it and who’d be the one to actual touch it when Harlowe gets fed up and slices apart the wall around it so Flit can just teleport it back to Harvey’s van.
Harlowe and the rest lead the way down there to an door open with people discussing things in Atlantean. Harlowe’s smartphone starts going off and translating virtually every other word. The gist is that they’re there as an invasion force, to weaken something, potentially metahuman defense as it didn’t get translated. The group watches them for a second, the Atlanteans are around a table discussing things, most in their disguises with a single one lounging in a chair with his helmet off revealing pointed ears, purple-ish hair, cat slit eyes, obviously differently human.
One of the men looks at his arm that’s glowing red as he’s obviously startled at something, another six can be heard coming down the hallway. Fiona does something brash, as normal, and storms into the room introducing herself as an Atlantean that was there preparing for their arrival. Harlowe, sighing, sets up his phone to start doing live translation over their earbuds and then tells the library to access Atlantean greeting ceremonies to help out Fiona. The leader investigates Fiona’s arm, seeing where she was marked by the diviner and announces that she’s of their blood. She’s told that she needs to come with them and informs them that the rest of the group is her retainers and not of the blood but can be trusted. He waves his hand dismissively and leads them back to the vessel they arrived in.
Aftermath
They’re lead into the flat egg shape and they can feel it move as seats form out of nowhere. Flit is able to determine that they’re moving fairly rapidly, whatever they’re in isn’t really affected by inertia or friction as it seems they’re phasing through buildings as they go. The leader tells them to brace themselves as they break the dimensional border. It’s an odd feeling and then they just sort of stop. The leader points towards the door and they’re lead off to a fairly lush jungle area to an installation in the middle of the jungle where they cannot see anything above the canopy. The light is pretty close to sepia and the installation is huge, with more spider bots scuttling around and people loading on and off of vessels. The tall Atlantean introduces herself as The Peregrine and that they’re to remain there as guests, not prisoners and if they need anything, they can place their hand on the wall and ask for it.
After Action Report (GM)
A sort of impromptu combat with a doodle map – it was fun though and the PCs got to see Atlantean war machines up close and personal and I get the impression they did not like it at all. We’re a single session away from the end and I hope I can stick the landing on the finale. We’ll see.
