Previously . . .
There’s much argument about how to go out and around the neighborhood and seeing how people are arguing, the Hobbs child Haizea opens the door and declares that the darkness goes away, knocking out the darkness on the block the group are on with what looks like an impossibly coloured barrier. Fiona looks out towards the street seeing people on the ground, some shocked that there’s light that has suddenly appeared. Some of them are dead, some are just injured, looking them over they find claw and teeth wounds, incredibly far apart in some cases and plenty of chemical acid burns. They drag the four injured into the medical RV parked outside of Harlowe’s house and start treatment and investment.
Harvey manages to detect that there’s something in some of the bite wounds and investigates them, though it’s nothing that he’s able to determine as being genetic patterns. The claws are at least 8-10 inches long, the bite marks are at least 50% to 200% the size of a human mouth with attacks going straight on. There’s plenty of discussion on where to go now, Harlowe finally tells them that they can stay there, but he’s going to the Bensonhurst Laundry to speak with the neighborhood MAPs team rather than listen to them argue more.
Monsters in the Dark
Flit, Fiona, Harlowe, and Harvey
MAPS #1031 team aka Bensonhurt Laundry

They accept Harlowe’s decision and they decide to take the medical RV and go above the rooftops using Harlowe’s forcefields which actually illuminate some of the darkness. Descending to street level, they see three orbs of light cutting through the darkness, surrounded by what looks like runes that spark out whenever something in the darkness gets close while more people are fighting what appears to be monsters. Harvey brings the RV down to double park it, leaving the hazard lights on. They can see several people at the Laundry chanting as lightning sparks out at the dark figures. Almost humanoid-like, hunched backs and misshapen limbs dripping what looks like acid from their mouths. There’s other people fighting as well, one throwing objects that strike and then comes back to them, there’s another protecting a group that looks to be dressed up like a medieval knight.
As they arrive, Harlowe has leapt from the force construct road, aiming for one of the dark beings as he constructs his armor and shield in midair, only for his target to get struck with a bullet as he brings the shield down onto it getting smashed down to the ground as it gets struck with force waves. The knight calls out greetings to Harlowe and declares the monsters screwed as Flit attempts to teleport brains out of one of the monsters closest to the knight. Fiona lets loose a water blast to try to knock a creature upwards to one of the light spheres which vaporizes it. Harvey, having made an extra remote, unleashes Gigajewel to attack.
The monsters turn and run, leaving only the one under Harlowe’s shield remaining as he layers more and more layers of zero point bindings on him. The knight, Sir K, greets Harlowe and then Fiona in grandiose fashion only for one of the people to tell him to knock it off. She’s Laura, AKA Spike, the person throwing metal knives that come back, looking quite like a tomboyish waif meets biker chick. The one fighting with energy blasts is more Japanese looking, going by Kit. Harvey’s attempt to find genes in Sir K’s armor results in no results and looking through googles shows kyberic energy signatures but no actual person inside, the armor is animated somehow. Flit asks what they are, and the woman moving the balls of fire in the sky declares them Remnants, something that comes between dimensions and someone had let them in.
They aren’t exactly humans, not anymore at least, and if they were then they’d probably be grateful. They don’t know why they’re there though but they’ve had the lights going since the darkness started. They knock on the door, alerting their boss who grapples down from the roof. Her name is Mary, known as Calamity Mary. Fiona asks if they can set up a satellite outpost to help them while Mary says that they need some medical help since their medic went down, permanently, during the first wave. Harvey and Flit start triaging people.
Aftermath
Harlowe asks if there’s any communication going on from the other MAPs teams, only to hear that it’s basically been quiet but she’s the only person that’s got a bit of foresight as they keep trying to get things going. Ray contacts them, letting them know they’ve got a handle on at least one of the problems and asks for their help. Saying they need to shut a dimensional hole, they managed to close one in the north of the city by bombarding it with explosives. Though he’s got faith that Flit could close it and stop the flow of creatures. The location is about five miles north of Harlowe’s home and this door is far larger than the one that Ray had encountered, almost ten times the size of the door sized one that Ray encountered.
With the contact over, Harlowe checks a map and find they’re probably going to be going towards the Fort Greene Park, after picking up some explosives from home and taking the RV there.
After Action Report (GM)
This session kept me laughing more or less from start to finish. The players were just too funny. We’ve been doing more abstract/theater of the mind style combat than I’m personally used to so I set-up a mission for them next session. Then the PCs want to do some heroing and street level ops – which is fine by me! I love that stuff as a GM. One fun thing I did was set up a bit of confusion by porting characters from another of my settings to this one – if that is in fact what I’ve done. I could just be having said characters be similar but not the same. Hell, *I’m* still deciding. We’ll see.
