The group has descended into the sewers with Jian Wu somehow managing to squeeze his bulk through the hole down into sewers and into what appears to be a bolt hole with beds and tables and a doorway. Already looking around and searching through the doors, some of the group remembered to grab some of the magical lights from the basement above. They strategically move around and into the sewers proper, commenting on perhaps cleaning up the brothel’s bolt hole and living there.

Into the Underground, Part Deux

Jian Wu, Jiao Ting, Liang Jing Min, Nongmin Chushi, Sheng Yi, and Zhiyu Zhige
City Sewers
Seventh Month 15th day, 1004 Zao Dynasty, 23rd hour
Pingxian, Fu Dao Province

They investigate the small boat that’s hauled up on the side of the sewer canal but find nothing relevant before they head out into the corridor properly where Nongmin encounters a rather large spider and inquires if it’s friendly.

The shadowy spider moves to “kiss” Nongmin causing severe injury to his chest and nearly killing him, but knocking him out instead, leaving the spider to drop its prey to focus on others. Zhiyu heals Nongmin from afar a bit while Ren charges forwards and slashes the spider, same as Jian Wu slashing out with his sword. Sheng Yi fires two arrows into the spider, causing harm. Ting slams into the shadowy spider twice and gets damaged in return. The spider attempts to retaliate at Ting but gets confused at the small human causing it to lose balance in the confusion. Nongmin remains unconscious as more spiders come in.

With Zhiyu healing Ting from the distance and Ren doing a blade dance against the new spider, slashing through it five times in a second causing it incredible amounts of damage and killing it. Jian Wu slices past Ting and into the injured spider, it’s still alive though barely hanging on. Sheng Yi fires off another two arrows, killing it. Ting steps back away from the body. Nongmin, now conscious, tries to determine what to do while laying half off the side of the canal. He pulls himself into a sitting position.

Zhiyu heals Nongmin some more while Ren moves into a defensive posture, ready to strike at anything that comes forwards, barely managing to make out a spider’s leg at the edge of the darkness and striking at it, killing whatever he struck. With Sheng Yi coming up forwards, it barely illuminates the darkness enough for Ting to make out the figure of a spider which Ting immediately charges forwards and slams, the rebound damage is enough to knock Ting back onto his butt, which is exactly where Ting wanted to be when he lashes out with kicks at the spider’s legs damaging them. Nongmin moves further down the corridor a bit only to encounter more spiders coming his and Jian Wu’s way. Ren strikes down a spider when it moves past the Ting/Spider tangle while Ting breaks the mandible of the spider attempting to bite him.

Zhiyu moves forwards and heals Ting. . . again as he appears to have injured himself. Ren strikes out, with a spider managing to dodge well enough to force Ren to lose his grip on his sword. Jian Wu moves ahead a bit and kills a spider with a blow to the head. Sheng Yi draws four arrows and fires them into the torso of the demon spider, hitting three times, killing it. Ting, having the spider where he wants it strikes the spider twice in the face with his feet and when it drops to the floor, stunned, Ting stamps at its skull with his feet. Nongmin, moving to help Ren retrieve his sword via telekinesis who then grabs it from the air. A spider climbs forwards and strikes at Wu who fails his parry and the sword twists in his grasp and the spider bites into him while the one by Ting fails to break from the stun it’s found itself in.

Zhiyu overheals Ting for more than needed due to a lack of something else to help with in the fight. Ren keeps close to Zhiyu and readies himself to attack anything that might get close. Jian Wu, with sword unready, attempts to break free from the spider’s bite and fails. Sheng Yi tosses one of the magical lamps close to Ting to illuminate the corridor some more while Ting continues to kick out at the demonic spider, squishing it underneath his feet. Nongmin swings out his staff at the closest spider, hitting it for a bit of damage. The spiders move in, one strikes at the prone Ting who aggressively parries it and punches it in the face in return. Nongmin gets bitten at but manages to parry with his staff while Jian Wu takes damage as the spider crushes him in its jaws.

Zhiyu summons her firefox balls and burns the spider attacking Wu while Ren runs forwards and strikes at the spider but his weapon turns in his hand on the second strike. Jian Wu attacks the spider with a head butt, cherry tapping it to death. Sheng Yi fires at a standing spider, striking it in the skull with both, though it still stands. Ting keeps to his standard tactics and lashes out repeatedly at the new spider attempting to bite him, stunning it with hits to the face and stamping at the brain while still prone on the ground. Nongmin strikes at the spider, managing to hit it once. The spider manages to break from its stun while the other misses a strike at Nongmin.

Zhiyu directs her foxfire at the spider in front of Nongmin while Ren readies the sword that turned in his hand along with Jian Wu. Sheng Yi fires his bow twice at the spider and accidently hits Nongmin once in the right leg and once in the spider’s skull. Ting strikes out with his legs again, stunning the spider once more and then stomping it to death before turning to stare at the standing spider, intimidating it. Nongmin strikes at the spider killing it before it can flee from the fight.

Nongmin gets medical treatment from Zhiyu who gets the arrow in his shin shoved forwards to save the arrow while getting a lecture from the medic about getting involved with spiders again. Nongmin uses his telekinesis to move a lamp around to check the locations. They follow the lamp down the eastern pathway with the group following it after Zhiyu attempts to milk the spiders for their poison. They track through the sewers for several hours figuring out where the gunpowder barrels went, eventually finding some steps that go upwards and find themselves in front of the main bureaucracy building where all the ministers went.

They Blew it Up!

Seventh Month 15th day, 1004 Zao Dynasty, 0th hour
Pingxian, Fu Dao Province

Now in the fresh air, Nongmin tracks by nose, locking onto a particularly unpleasant smell that leads to the back of the building where they receive supplies as opposed to the front where there’s plenty of guards and archers.

They sneak by through the servant’s entrance and find that the guard has been given a second smile with his throat slit. Nongmin continues to sniff out the location of the men they’re trailing and the black powder, and he smells both gunpowder and a burning scent about 10 yards into the building. Nongmin runs forwards and manages to get there in time to see the fuse and uses his TK to grasp it and yank it out to burn itself out. He sees about 18 barrels of gunpowder and a large amount of dead guards along with a funky looking device about ten feet away from where the barrels are. It seems to have a candle inside it and is moving around in a clockwork manner. Jian Wu is able to see that it counts down for 20 minutes and then swings the candle inside on something else. They blow out the candle and attempt to smell out any more candles.

They hear several explosions coming from outside the building, Zhiyu heads to the rooftop to examine the damage. One of the locations being the granary and food storage while another is the city library, thankfully Rang was left at the inn. There’s several other smaller explosions around and most of Cheapside is on fire. Ting is able to remember that Rang said that was going to stay at the Starlight Inn and Teahouse for awhile so she wouldn’t be at the library.

Aftermath

After Action Report (GM)

Another combat heavy game – this one against demon spiders from Hell. The PCs wanted it to be from the Elemental Plane of Spiders but uhhh. No. Anyways. It was mostly combat this time around with a bit of exposition at the end. I did do a no-no this time as a GM – never decide the outcome for the players. I rolled randomly to determine what of the three locations the Black Silk Rebellion members would be targeted and which one the PCs could stop. The Library and Granary/Food Stores for the city went bye bye, but the gov’t offices stayed up. I thought that was the best outcome even though I rolled randomly. The PCs were not happy. Oh, well. You run you learn. Overall, good session stacking up and the PCs get to deal with the BBEG next game since he kidnapped the twins and Mouse (a favorite NPC of the players).
