After inviting Soar to the plane, they get back to the Returner’s base starting with Angel Cakes trying to make a full course meal, having gotten up and asked where the kitchen was and moved to make everyone sandwiches. With Nero speaking with her about what she’s planning to make and profess their shared potentially platonic affection towards each other. Boombox moves to talk with her asking questions, if she can remember anything before waking up to which she is rather nonplussed in that she often experiences blackouts. She talks about pink being her favourite colours and yellow as well, she stops and her face goes slack and wooden and she looks absent as she thinks about a yellow dress she once had, almost like she had a petite mal seizure. It’s pretty obvious by now that she’s not exactly the original. She makes Boombox some cookies and milk and as far as they can tell it’s all normal. She’s moving around the kitchen normally, like she’d always been there which seems a bit suspicious, but she claims that it just seems like things are there where they should be.

Somewhere Over Atlantic Ocean

Nero moves up and grabs everyone, including Soar, in a huddle and tells them they have a new mission. They have to find the yellow dress. The rest of the group agrees, but sets it aside for the moment. They also inform Soar about the rest of the group they’ve picked up, and Soar cannot remember much other than the fact that metahumans were an extreme rarity.

They find that Blockbuster is now awake, and he’s still quite out of it like someone just barely waking up out of anesthesia. Boombox sits down and apologizes to him which he’s rather confused about as first they go in and knock him out and then send them to jail where they knock him out, and then they break them out of jail and knock him out again. Boombox explains what they’re doing, and Blockbuster tells them no hard feelings, they put him in jail, they busted him out of jail, they’re even now. When Cascade and Pulsifer wake up, they basically go through the same thing, introduce everyone on their way back to Brazil.

They do ask about Angel Cake, Blockbuster explains that she gravitates towards people with powers for some reason and they picked her up around a year back where she’s done her trick several times and they aren’t even sure if she’s the original one. She doesn’t have any powers and she’s pretty much equivalent to normal humans. Once they’re on the ground, they shake hands as the group leaves, Blockbuster offers his services if they ever need some mercenaries and Angel Cakes waves farewell before heading back to the kitchen. Boombox tries to convince her to leave with the group only for her to look at them with her lower lip trembling.

There’s several points of view on her staying, with Nero being on the side of keeping Angel Cakes around since he’s immune to it. There’s some possible way that Nero could “vaccinate” the rest, but the idea of him injecting himself into other people. They try to figure out what the best way to deal with things, and determine that they’re just going to have to let her be for now while looking for the yellow dress and go to thinking about whether or not they should break from the Returners since they brought the other team back, making it more obvious that something may be up. They also figure that breaking away from the Returners may make them even more suspicious.

They also have to determine what to do with Soar. They’re obviously not going to be able to live a normal life with how they are and that their home country is now gone along with everything they’ve known. They want to stick with the group as they figure out what to do, they’re the only people they know.

Bahía Blanca, Provincia de Buenos Aires, Argentina

Making a choice, they head back to Marta at the Returners. Boombox takes the lead, trying to make sure they can clear some things up as they might be a bit confusing at the moment. Marta just mentions that they told her that they busted them out of jail with no one talking about how they got there in the first place. Boombox starts chattering quickly about how they’d had to do it. They then ask how things are going, and apparently things were going well until someone found out that the Returners were working with them, specifically Apex. Marta hands Apex an envelope with a picture from what looks like a photobooth with her, pre-transformation, and an older gentleman, Dr. Mrinsfield. The doctor that cured her neurodegenerative disease, quite an experiment that turned her into her current self. There’s also another piece of paper with coordinates on it. Marta tells her that she was told to give Apex it in exchange for some stuff they needed from him, she recommends not following the instructions inside as he’s a very dangerous man.

Aftermath

They understand that he’s at least a hundred years old despite looking fifty years old, works with a group known as Trinity that sparks thoughts of Assembly. He’s also the genius that taught Dr. Avarez everything he knew. He’s dangerous though, on an intellectual and tactical level and he wants Apex. Marta stresses that Apex should run far and fast and find a hole and the last person that he wanted that went that way ended up disappearing. They discuss between themselves what to do next, why he’d want her. They finally decide to head towards the location.

With that decided, they head into the Returners’ kitchen, finding folks eating random foods. Nero immediately moves to get some drinks to almost no avail. They even break out ayahuasca before the group leaves to the plane to have Hux run the coordinates to see where it is. The coordinates lead them to New York City. Nero, at least, knows this one as they take off for the US.

After Action Report (GM)

A longer session than we’ve been having – and a good one. Lots of stuff done. Lots of excellent roleplaying. It was a blast to GM.
