Previously . . .

The new team is hired from the MAPs Traveller program to find The Commander, supposedly dead from the explosion that occurred at Yankee Stadium. His girlfriend doesn’t believe it and has a small group looking for him. His body is found being sold on the black market to The Combustion Man. The team that has been assembled is Doctor Thantos, an immortal energy vampire, Amar Gupta, an energy manipulator, Marduk, an electrokinetic, Nyx, a darkness manipulator, and Yukio the Wonder Dog. The Commander’s girlfriend teleports them into the compound, trying to keep themselves upright after moving halfway across the world into Bahrain.

Finding The Commander

Nyx, Amar, The Commander, Marduk, and Doctor Thanatos

Katana tells the crew to split up and neutralize everyone, preferably by not killing everyone. Still a sentry notices their sudden entrance and Doctor Thanatos moves to neutralize him with a sword cane. Not very non-lethal when it gets thrust into his heart, though the sentry manages to dodge it. Yukio digs at a nearby door while a wave of gravity strikes Doctor Thanatos, but still remains upright. Marduk, stepping forwards peers around several boxes. Sidestepping from the entryway and behind a wall, Nyx slips into shadow form while Amar charges forwards into a wall to power himself up by absorbing the impact.

Marduk gets shot at but ducks back against the crates he’s using for cover. Trying to regain the health back from the gravity blast, Doctor Thanatos drains the Sentry in front of him. Yukio is being confused by the door, apparently the doorknob is a non-standard shape. A quick moment later, Marduk, Doctor Thanatos, and Amar (alongside the injured Sentry) is now floating in the air, a result of anti-gravity. Marduk, not enjoying the situation, throws a lightning bolt at a man hitting himself and screaming. A shock to the stomach leaves the screamer stunned. Looking to get a better vantage point, Nyx walks up the wall onto the roof to think about the situation and try to sense how many shadows are around them. Amar kicks off a wall and grabs onto the Sentry. Marduk gets shot at again, this time in midair. Twisting around, he manages to dodge all the bullets.

Doctor Thanatos stunts his Leech to create an AoE to drain the formed squad. Everyone but Vertigo was unable to resist the blow. Katana has had time to get into the building and stab him with some adrenaline and is now throwing his gear at him. With the Commander now awake, he starts to suit up as Yukio starts to dig through the wall. Despite his great move, their opponent slams them into the ground with a gravity pound. Most of them are physically fine. An opponent charges forwards towards the group, his body glowing with power. Marduk rolls into a kneeling posture. Nyx doesn’t like that idea of being charged by a glowy man and sends out a Shadow Grasp to keep him still. Amar decides to hit him with an energy blast that causes the man to glow even moreso.

More shots fired at Marduk, this time he isn’t able to dodge the bullets and gains a crippled foot in return. One soldier drops a bead on Yukio from behind but the gun jams on him while others throw grenades at the trio of heroes. Katana helps the Commander finish dressing before she bamfs away. Doctor Thanatos steps, nay, lies up to do another hit with an AoE Leech downing some more soldiers.  Yukio turns around and approaches the soldier behind, growling at the attempted murder. Commander disappears from the room and appears in front of the glowing man, kicking him in the chest. Unable to dodge, the man takes the blow head-on though the psychokinetic kick’s force knocks more people back. The gravity manipulator takes flight with her ability while the glowing man attempts to break free. Unfortunately his best attempts has him hopeless entangled in the shadows. Marduk throws a stun out at the flier, knocking them out of the sky.

Nyx, deciding that as long as they stop kicking the glowing man, throws another shadow binding at the soldier that Yukio is facing down, keeping him in position. Amar jumps upon the grenades while more soldiers charge from the buildings only to have their legs chopped by Katana bamfing from behind. Doctor Thanatos beseeches their opponents to surrender, but they’re still up for a fight while Yukio is still rather disoriented from the teleport and fails to gnaw on the bound soldier. The Commander, somewhat disheartened by the fact that the glowing man hasn’t moved an inch and is still mildly glowing. Unleashing his inner Chuck Norris, The Commander unleashes a psionic spinning back kick upon the glowing man knocking them all back. The glowing man unleashes his pent up energy and explodes outwards. Marduk attempts to stun the glowing man, but fails while Nyx decides to take matters in his own hands and skips through the shadows and drains the glowing man leaving him unconscious.

To celebrate the end of the battle, the grenades that Amar has jumped upon explode, absorbing the explosion. Katana looks at the Commander like a sailor seeing port for the first time in months and embraces him while Nyx wonders about the looting potential.

Aftermath

Katana explains that a lot has happened in the last six months, a confused Commander tries to understand what is happening. Doctor Thanatos goes for the other half of his name and stabilizes the soldiers and Marduk’s injuries, getting the Electrokinetic back on his foot. Nyx doesn’t find anything of interest on the fallen and the team heads back towards the US. The Commander is filled in that AEGIS has fallen on hard times, Arc-Light’s widow has leased the armored suits to the military to combat metahumans. Senator Blackwell has become president. MAPs program is being slowly dried up and being replaced, but still active in New York City with an international program. It took them a month and a half to find the Commander and the federal government isn’t too happy with New York at the moment. It only takes them about six hours to get back to New York on their hovercraft.

Most of the team gets medical attention and some new clothes while Marduk gets hauled away to get some bullets extracted and the rest of the team gets to meet Professor Lucasta. A short, white-haired balding man, nominally in charge of Research and Development and sort of creator of Marduk. The team introduces themselves to the Commander. Agent Templeton, associated with the Bureau of Metahuman Affairs introduces himself as a handler for Nyx, who explains that he’s out on work release. Templeton explains that their job was to locate the Commander, though he does have some other job that they may want to take. But he’d let them rest first, and come back tomorrow to brief them tomorrow.

After Action Report (GM)

We’re back in the saddle. After nearly two years (last game session was March 27, 2017) we’re back playing AEON (the first online campaign I ran). The session was short because I didn’t sleep well, but the players got to test their characters abilities in a stand-up fight against a grav-controller and a damage-absorber/brick. Being smart (and having seen what a PC grav-controller can do first hand) they targeted Vertigo (the grav-controller) first. The more brich-ish meta, Overkill, put up lots of fight, but little effort. He was hit with a binding attack right off and well, he just didn’t have enough strength to break out of it. Overall, a good start.

Other Notes

None.

Soundtrack

Bad Girls” by M.I.A. (Opening Song)
Bodies” by Drowning Pool (Combat Scene)
Boys Are Back In Town” by Thin Lizzy (Closing Song)
