AEON B2-Team: Season 8, Session 4 – In the Dark of the Night

Dramatis Personae

  • Amar Gupta aka The Iron Sikh  (played by Christian): Brick. Taxi Driver. Ass-Kicker. Sikh. Tagline: “Being a man of faith means to live it.”
  • Amie-Belle T. W. Lee aka Whisper (Played by Curtis): Cold War era super-soldier/spy that got put in the Freezer, because she got poisoned. After getting thawed out and cured she tried to back to work, and was given an “adjustment period”. Uncle Sam called 2 years later, with work… because once you’re in, you’re in for life. Tagline: “In and out without a whisper.”
  • Beauregard K. “Bo” Ratnam aka Wirerat (Played by Brice): Technopath, inventor, and hacker. He specializes in co-opting enemy systems and tech assets. Tagline: “Nice tech – I’ll borrow that.”
  • Rafe Hanlon aka Nyx (played by Chris D.): An umbrakinetic petty thief still on work release several years later, on his way to becoming a true agent and hero. Tagline: “We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.”
  • Vincenzo L. dePrezzo aka Threshold (Played by Rory): Doctor, Mathematician, and Scientist (yes, capitals) and Spatial Manipulator. Threshold can bend space like a pretzel, teleport, obliterate things, and has extraordinary senses. He’d rather be in a research lab than fight. Better known for his work with Doctors Without Borders, the United Nations, and disaster relief than famous battles. Tagline: “I can be there in a snap!”
  • Derrick K. Ratnam aka Legerdemain (NPC Ally): Spin doctor and media liaison for Project VANGUARD. Twin to Bo. Tagline: “Well, actually that’s not how it happened…”
  • Layla A. de Blackburn aka Nox (NPC): CIA-trained child assassin all grown up to be Daddy’s Little Monster. Maybe a little mad. Argues with her shadow often. Tagline: “No, we shouldn’t do that…should we?”
  • Stainless Steel Rat aka “Sir” (NPC Ally): Bo’s best friend and assistant. A sentient drone in the shape of a stylized shiny metal rat mindlinked to Bo. Specialties are rapid repair construction and modifications. Imagine if K-9 and R2D2 made a baby and it looks a bit like a rodent. Tagline: “Repairs and upgrades in progress.”

Previously . . .

While Nyx and Threshold are busy, Wirerat decides to confront his worst fears by limping over and grabbing some yogurt and spoons from a mini fridge before sitting down next to Nox, offering some yogurt that she snatches from him. He mentions that she seems a bit stressed out, only for her to tell him that she doesn’t want to talk about it, if she talks about it then he’ll see, probably Erebus. He can barely hear a whispery tone saying that Wirerat doesn’t actually want them down there, he considers them chaos, the only person that likes them is the boy. Wirerat explains that she only moderately scares him, to which both Nox and her shadow independently looks at him which causes him to recalculate and say that both of them moderately scare him. He just wishes that they’d respect the doorway more often rather than just teleporting into his lab. She eats the yogurt while Wirerat speaks to her about Nyx, she finishes up and hiding under the sheet.

Wirerat tells her that out of the folks in the building, Nyx is the one guy that he trusts completely to stick around and help. He still offers her some more blueberry yogurt, or go-gurts rather from a hidden stash where a shadowy hand reaches out before her actual hand to grab it and then extracts it back underneath the desk. Wirerat still keeps talking to her to reassure her and try to get her to talk more about Erebus, who scares the hell out of her.

A Light in the Dark

Threshold
Mount Sinai Hospital
Thursday, May 7th, 2020, 1800 hours (EST)
1468 Madison Ave, New York, NY 10029

Threshold, in the hospital, has stayed at the hospital longer than he’d have liked as there’s a mass casualty event going on and he’s a fully trained omni-doctor. Working with Medevac, Aisling Maccormack, and he’s still not getting completely tired of the minty fresh aura that she gives off every time she teleports. Bringing in people from outside and triaging them with her powers, being able to locate people that are hurt and determine who is the most hurt person in her range and teleport them with her.

Threshold is seeing a lot of bite wounds and acid burns on the victims coming in. During breaks, he does speak with the light user, Glowworm, a small skinny Jewish kid that’s late teens and early twenties who is only able to create light but the light can be used anywhere. Creating wisps that he’s actually able to see through, though he’s never created so many at once, up to several hundred now and causing quite a bit of mental strain on him. Threshold keeps half an eye on him in case something goes wrong between patients.

Cushion Forts and Blueberry Yogurt

Nyx and Wirerat
Old FDNY Engine 299/Ladder 152 Building aka New Base
Friday, May 8th, 2020, 2000 hours (EST)
61-20 Utopia Pkwy, Fresh Meadows, NY 11365

Nyx has been spending the past few hours keeping Flushing from panicking too badly and getting people to hospital before making an announcement via his powers to tell people to shelter in place unless they absolutely have to go out, in which case go in groups. The gangs that Nyx has been working with are already on the prowl on the street with baseball bats, and some firearms, keeping their neighborhood safe so it’s time for Nyx to go back to HQ and get some food into him.

Grabbing something edible from the fridge he goes downstairs to see that Wirerat has made strides towards replicating the frequency of Glowworm’s light, making several of them and showing them off to Nyx and Nox, the latter of which is rather bothered by the frequency that the light gives off. Wirerat makes plans to alter the drones being manufactured to also contain the flashlights as the blanket covered person under the desk has been trying to entice Nyx under the desk with offers of yogurt and blankets. Wirerat indicates that he’s been trying keep Nox from freaking out leading Nyx to declare him almost people for tolerating Nox’s presence in the lab and going in for a hug leading for him to call out to SSR to protect him while Nyx declares a group hug with SSR and Wirerat. The latter of which manages to tolerate the touch of another person.

Aftermath

After the hug and demonstration, Nyx heads over to Nox who’s still under the desk, asking why a blanket fort instead of a cushion fort. She asks if he’d make it with her and he agrees, going upstairs and grabbing the cushions from the Seven League Sofa in Threshold’s office that’d been spatially manipulated to allow for Threshold to lay down comfortably on, taking the spare change between the cushions while doing so. He sets up a cushion fort by the desk and uses the blanket to cover it, allowing for a larger area to lay in, telling Wirerat that he’s going to spend some time with Nox. Wirerat takes the news well, grabbing some noise cancelling headphones and telling SSR to initiate liquid protection protocol.

After Action Report (GM)
