As they drive their way back towards New York City, they get to watch as the dome of darkness shrinks down further and eventually disappears. Flit and Fiona get on their cell phones to make phone calls to figure out what’s going on, contacting Ray first. Ray asks where they went as he lost contact with them before telling them that the darkness issue has been dealt with, and the holes have stopped forming though his sensors have this weird doppler effect where things are both there and not there before disappearing. Places where they know that holes had opened up now seem like they’re both there but not. Flit suggests that Harlowe drives by where they knew some tears had opened up previously which Harlowe agrees to at least until she realizes that it would take her several hours to actually get there. Fiona, meanwhile, decides to start playing punch buggy with Harlowe, which isn’t good as he’s driving a VW and tells Fiona to get to the back row where Gigajewel invites Fiona to join her and Harvey.
Harvey, meanwhile, has been analyzing the DNA from the 1940s, where there’s not much amiss other than the cells from the scientist in the machine has cells that are a bit more-healthy than others, while sniffer guy seems to be a pervert before Fiona asks if they shared any particular gene sequences, which shares similarities with her indicating that Fiona may be a member of a humanoid sub-race as there’s too many particular sequences to say it’s a coincidence. It’s expanded towards Lynn as well with her as a third sample. While they keep driving, Harvey starts scanning in the paper documents and Flit teleports to Fort Greene Park where she closed the largest hole.
With quite some time of exploring the area, Flit understands what Ray is talking about, the portal is closed but it feels like an echo will come back and it’ll come back, which she can’t quite say much about it scientifically and sends a group text to everyone before teleporting to the Hobbs house just in time for the Vanagon pull up.
With some checks, they learn that the Riker’s Island breakout is still happening with the cell block is still besieged. A lot of the prisons have taken the guards and stuck them in a wing with rather heavyweight prisoners that don’t have to rely on their abilities. Every time someone assaults the prison block, they send out a few guards with their throats slit. There’s a few ways to go, which mostly involves getting some kind of legitimacy from MAPs in general before heading in. Most of the team agrees with that and getting some kind of registrations occurring to deal with the breakout. The MAPs system itself wasn’t ready to deal with the thought that more than a quarter of the population of the prison being out and another under siege and a giant hole in the courtyard.

They teleport to the middle of MAPs HQ in the middle of Manhattan with plenty of high tech stuff. Stuck in the public access area, they eventually get to meet Sgt. Ashley Foreman who has been frazzled and gives them paperwork to give out. She takes photographs and starts processing paperwork and making ID badges, declaring them temporary Team 2211 and apologizing for the wait and that people are normally desk jockeys were put out onto the street and that she’s working with only one other person that would be on the street except that he’s waiting for his legs to grow back. Harlowe, meanwhile, has pulled out a pile of paperwork that he’s had ready, getting Gigajewel assigned as temporary deputy per emergency order by the Bensonhurst Laundry with a transfer order to a temporary team which she can’t argue isn’t appropriately filled out. Harlowe still refuses to remove her cuffs though.
Ray is quite happy that they’re there to help out as he’s being pulled in several different directions at once. Flit opens them a portal to Riker’s Island where it looks like a war zone with folks running around with medics tending to wounded, soldiers, people in personal armor.

Riker’s MEtahuman Containment Facility

At one spot there’s at least a half dozen full transports. Flashing badges, they’re let in but are pushed off to the side by themselves until M. Humber comes up to them, looking almost like a plain-clothed police officer except for the name tag, looking like a mess that hasn’t slept for almost a decade. Before he can say anything, Harvey immediately hits him with a healing spray. Shocked, curious, somewhat offended, he immediately asks Harvey if he’s got more and then recruits him for the medics as they need help with the walking wounded. Flit ascertains that they don’t have teleport blockers up and then starts spilling their secrets for herself, Fiona, and Harvey. When Fiona asks how the water infrastructure is like and if they’ve got leaks, the man shows them the large sinkhole in the middle of the island.
He called it the result of Project Argus, a result of thousands of people’s psyches’ getting ripped out and shoved into one person creating a reality controller, the scariest thing that they’ve ever seen and they have no idea where it’s gone. He can’t easily describe it and the only description is what it is and it’s one of the most dangerous beings they held there. They’re trying desperately to get the situation resolved to haul people back in for containment as the buildings are still in working condition. Their biggest problem right now is finding enough people to neutralize the situation.
Aftermath
Flit is rather worried about how they’re going to get into there and how they’re going to get in there. The inmates have gotten access to the armory and it’s said that they’ve placed all the guards in a single place. There’s talk about Flit opening a portal for the guards to run through with Harlowe shielding them. Harlowe, however, is less concerned by the gun and more by who all is inside the prison. Fiona immediately goes down the toilet and finding the information on who all is in the prison block and where the hostages are along with a majority of the prisoners.
Fiona uses her water powers to show who she could in there and cross reference it with the files in the prison while Harvey speed-reads all the files. They get a differential on who all is in the prison thanks to Fiona’s suggestion. They manage to figure out there’s at least a hundred prisoners holding around sixty guards who are in there. And some of the most dangerous beings in the entire jail are in there as well. They try to figure out where they’re getting the food and water from, the food coming from various bunks and the water hasn’t been shut off as they still seem to be taking care of the guards. The electricity has been shut down before but an electrokinetic turned it back on.
There’s plenty of plans thrown back and forth.
After Action Report (GM)
A good session, the PCs are back in the present, they’re steering the ship, and it’s been good so far. Bit noisy and hyperactive, but I think most everyone was having fun. Still struggling with how to keep up momentum and making sure everyone gets to participate. Ah well, live and learn.
