Previously . . .

The group is getting fairly hands on details of what’s going on there, with a supercomputer of their time, though somewhat far more advanced than what one should be. Harvey is pretty sure it’s some kind of convergent evolution, almost a decade beyond what they should be using in that era with old style ammonia-based air conditioning. Mrinsfield has opened up a bit more so after Harvey has established his expertise. Fiona is noting down various weaknesses of the architecture, Harvey is looking over the experiments and the equipment around, getting intimate with the workings of the AC system.

Before making any plans, they head out to the Lieutenant’s office and take it over with Flit turning on the radio and pointing it at the door. Harlowe reveals that the ammo bunker they were just in was flooded in the 1960s up the door, so they know it will eventually be destroyed in the future, giving them some deniability. They do discuss how they can work with things with Flit telling them about the vision she got and describing things, with Harvey determining that the sequence shown would power down the machine allowing the skull free. Harlowe asks Harvey to concoct some stink gas to make it sound like there’s a leak coming from the AC system before they get in, break a wall.

After discussing where the team’s clothing is, the plan is in motion. Harvey making some gas and gets the bunker evacuated. Inside, Harlowe gets Fiona to making a hole down towards the water to commune with it to start it flooding, get Flit working to shut down the machine while Harvey pulls what he can from the computers before destroying backups. Unfortunately, Harvey has trouble with the computers for a moment before adapting and pulling out a device that’ll let him transcribe the tape to a modern format he can peruse later. The sequence shuts down the machine and they can all hear something say “Help me.”

The skull is floating in the middle of the device, pulsing slowing. Harvey thinks back towards it, asking how to help it. They get the images that it’s in pain in images, that it’s very tired. There’s a feeling that it’s not necessarily evil, but there’s definitely a weight to it that feels familiar to the group, especially Harlowe, Fiona, and Harvey like they just came home to a family member feeling. They ask how they’re supposed to help it, it sends back an image to grab it. Harlowe, with nothing else to do other than watch just steps up and grabs it, feeling that warm welcoming feeling once again. Harlowe asks how they’re supposed to help it, and they get an image of the Donut Hole and the word cradle.

Fiona has kept moving to get water inside, making a good-looking hole that looks like water actually formed it until she starts to feel the water all around her almost thirty feet down. Harlowe unbolts the orichalcum needle the skull was hovering over with his bare hands while leaving the rest of the orichalcum on the ground, remembering the long time ago when they tried to use a water saw on some of the orichalcum from the cave. Once they grab paperwork and electronics records, they get into the cave as the water floods behind them.

Aftermath

Once in the cave, the skull starts humming, a familiar tune in all of their dreams. Setting the skull down on the pillar in the cave, they feel once again that they’ve come home and Harlowe has the urge to start playing the harmonica alongside the skull. It starts floating in the air and the hole in the concrete heals, looks like it’s going in reverse with the debris floating back up towards it. Flit asks if the skull is one of the Roman gods only for it to answer no and pulses brightly. They find themselves in the cave again, on the floor. Harlowe with Chessur on his chest, licking at him and chirping.

Pulling themselves up, they find the skull still there floating, coming down in front of everyone before settling in front of Fiona, calling her a child of Atlantis and telling her to take it. Feeling cold and wet and dry all at the same time like Bengay. When asked if that means if the skull wants to go with them or if it has something for them to do, it merely says yes. They decide to head up and out, still seeing the darkness dome in front of them as they head towards New York.

After Action Report (GM)

A short session, but I wanted to keep the momentum rolling even though I spent most of the weekend and last half of last week out and about with my family (my sister got married!). The PCs really came together during this session though. I’ve been more hands off (at their request) and they conjured up a plan, executed it, and got out scot-free.  Now…that’s not a bad thing. They were using their abilities to do different things and everyone was able to get some good spotlight time. So short, yes. But a great session. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
