It’s been a week after they helped break the siege at the prison block at Riker’s Island and then helped fix the various issues around the prison, especially Fiona as she removes the flooded sewer water from the cell block, even working with a super named Bricklayer whose ability is to rebuild structures as long as he’s got the materials nearby. They’ve also got recommendations from the city and it’s likely once things are over they’re going to have to recount their actions for a debriefing and a report. They’ve got the National Guard and others brought in to help deal with the aftermath and try to find and rein in the couple hundred escaped metahumans that seem to be forming warbands and factions as the more powerful metas bring in the weaker ones under them.

Fiona has spent some time bringing Lynn and their child back into the city. Flit has gone on to do charity and fund-raising work around the city once it was determined that she didn’t have to go public with her identity. Harvey has helped with the aftermath of the darkness, helping with patients after all the accidents in addition to creating some more of the super-powered knockout gas he developed at the prison alongside Gigajewel who has taken to guarding him. Harlowe gets shanghaied to deal with the logistics side of stuff once they go through the right channels to get his work done.

Fiona is summoned to her mother’s palatial estate. Fiona is told that her mother had been prepping Fiona for for years. She shows Fiona a box in which is what can be seen as an artifact, small pyramidal metallic shape with a crystal in the center. She tells Fiona that they’re coming and it’ll keep them safe, the masters are coming. Fiona attempts to determine how wasted her mother actually is. She waves Fiona closer, her voice hoarse from overuse of screaming and drinking. Fiona comes closer, Tara sitting her down next to her. Her mother takes Fiona’s hand, kisses it and then presses it to the device.

It’s like Fiona goes out of phase, like she’s everywhere all at once. Looking down from some kind of height, a castle or tower, and below is hundreds of people in strange vehicles or vessels with part creature-part persons from an Isle of Dr. Moreau. The sky was the colour of a burnt orange. Tara declares that Fiona is now marked, screw consent. Now she just has to make sure that Fiona’s child is marked as well for the Atlanteans. She’s been contacted by some of them, they’ve been around for years working in the dark and the device is known as the diviner, sort of like checking in on a CB radio.

Perhaps after Tara is gone, one of Fiona’s brothers will run the family, but Fiona is going to be the neck that tells the head where to go. The Diviner wasn’t active, at least not normally until about a week ago when it started up working. The tales had been passed down over the generations from at least Tara’s grandmother. She’s sure that the chaos from a week prior was their doing, trying to cause trouble and create distractions to make their plans easier. She tells Fiona that she needs to bring the baby by soon, and Lynn she guesses, as she truly indulges Fiona. Tara wanders off to get a nap, leaving the box with the diviner in it. She grabs the box and heads out over to Harlowe’s place.

Harvey keeps working on healing people while Riker’s Island is bringing prisoners by for treatment as he’s one of the few people there that has gotten close to a universal power dampener. Gigajewel is eating an Italian Beef, her third one, and is talking to Harvey all through it. Saying that all she wanted while she was in jail was that particular sandwich from that particular deli and they made her four of them and she might share one of them with him. She’s been somewhat useful, acting as a guard. It wasn’t until Harvey had a prison guard coming up to ask why she wasn’t in one of the caskets that he’s been informed that she’s one of the scariest metahumans to come to Riker’s. The guard points out that she’s basically a caged tiger, just because she has licked him but not bitten him doesn’t make her any less dangerous. He just keeps treating folks and sedating those that they need sedated.

Flit continues to do fund raising in her public persona for getting things replaced. Money keeps pouring in, moving from the equivalent of GoFundMe but it gets higher and higher and they have to assign a bank to keep the money moving in and out and she has to pick up more employees for her assistant Aidan to boss around to get the money distributed. She also keeps going out to do teleportation work as well as keeping an eye out for old buildings and lots to buy up to make skating parks.

Harlowe has been working, though not quite as busy as previously with Harrison taking up more slack around. There’s something happening in Africa with a shaman or something able to animate literal dust devils, like a zombie apocalypse which spreads as their essential crunchy bits are dried out and become a new dust devil. The Hobbs children are playing on a console having some kind of tournament with Tabbs in the kitchen making tortillas.

One of the kids answers the door, crying out a greeting and inviting her to join them with the game. She turns them down, saying that she has something to speak with Harlowe about. She sees Harrison halfway in, halfway out listening to something on a headset when she enters into the office saying she’s got something weird to show Harlowe. It’s not paperwork, but she wants to see what Harlowe has to say about it. He’s able to say that it looks like a giant paperweight. It’s probably made out of old patinaed orichalcum, though no clue about the gem. He went to school for bookkeeping.

Chessur comes down and chirps at it, almost in a perfect C note causing it to resonate. It explains that it’s sort of like a radio and rolodex all in one that can only be used by someone of a certain gene sequence, but that it could probably be hacked with the right notes that Harlowe may play on the harmonica they’d learn the location of the last communication. Harlowe relays this to Fiona. The notes trigger resonating waves from the device causing telepathic waves. Fiona gets the first hit, letting her know the location with no way of getting to it. Harlowe, meanwhile, has taken yet another face full of kyberic energy and a couple thousand years of memories and operating manual, along with the location of an Atlantean library that’s in Manhattan. Whatever intelligence in the device is being really helpful to Harlowe.

Aftermath

Fiona takes the gadget back to her mother’s house and then comes back to Harlowe’s place before calling Harvey and inviting him along, same with Flit who drops by to pick up Harvey and Gigajewel. In the meantime, Ulrich has dropped by for dinner, with him, Harrison, and Harlowe speaking in the office. Telling a story about back in Mussolini’s Italy about how him and Daniel were trying to locate a person that had information about a Nazi base when Tabbs comes in to declare that dinner was ready. Ulrich says a traditional Jewish blessing over the food. As always, the children are like wild animals getting to the food. There’s discussion about how to get to the library and teleportation may have some problems as the library may have some protections.

After Action Report (GM)

We didn’t get a huge amount of time and I was late (sorry!), but we did have fun. We oriented and I dropped a few mysteries for people. Finally got to bring up the Atlanteans (I’ve been waiting since 2016!!!) in for their quiet little invasion. It’s gonna be awesome to finally let that plot thread fly. Overall, fun. Loved it. Probably have to wait till the new year to get back to the game since I’ll be missing a player next week, then it’s the holidays after that. Ah well.
