AEON E1-Team: Season 1, Session 9 – Starry Nights

There’s some continued question about whether or not they’ve actually joined The Returners and then there’s a discussion about figuring out how the group in Bahlia Blanco has gone down. Suggesting that Nero accesses the genetic memories of Angel Cakes to track them down and learning that they came from Cartagena, Colombia but that doesn’t help them figure out where they are now and if they should side with The Returners. They’ve also got the task they were set with to retrieve guns from a local gang that wanted more money. Electro suggests doing some recon to see what the deal is with them, using some radio intercept himself and Boombox getting close enough to eavesdrop their location in a sketchy neighborhood where they’re located in a chop shop.

Boombox can hear everything, including a guy named Nico in the shop telling someone else they need to get the supplies out quickly, he can hear the nervousness in their voice. The electronics that Electro gets access to allows him to confirm that the gang is talking via text exactly what Boombox overheard, he also gives Boombox a list of names that Electro managed to score from their electronics. They’re able to determine that Nico (de Francesco) is the boss of the gang and that there’s someone that’s going to be buying the supplies that were originally supposed to be sold to The Returners. The buyer is going to be showing up fairly shortly in a blue pickup truck with $60,000.

There’s some convoluted plans, including the possibility of Nero turning into money where they then pay the guy for the supplies. Perhaps a box that’s mixed into their supplies. Perhaps have Electro go in and snatch the crates, but there’s a half dozen of them so it’d take time. Get Boombox and Nero there and get them. Ambush the guy in the blue truck after he buys the items and steal them there. Walk straight in and tell them that they’re taking the stuff. Getting into there and all. Nero insists on not robbing or carjacking the guy with the blue truck since they know that the chop shop guys are criminals.

What they finally decide is that Boombox goes and sets off and imitates alarms to get the gang to scatter while Electro and Nero grab the crates. With things looking up, they pull the boxes from the back into a waiting vehicle while Boombox starts the sound of fire crackling while Electro just sets off a fire alarm so the fire department shows up soon. As they’re leaving, Boombox silences the area except for a canned laugh track sound.

They arrive back at the social ministry and backs the vehicle up to the loading dock. Sena greets them at the door, saying that it looks like they succeeded, giving them another $50,000 to compensate them for their time. Asking how to go next, she offers to pay them to move troops and equipment with their plane as they’ve got people at the airport that’s a part of The Returners. Asking if they’ve ever heard of Snakeheads, a group of human traffickers that they recently raided one of their bases and got a half dozen girls they want to take to Cartagena to start a new life there. They also need them to take the guns to Cartagena as well. Nero wants to know why the folks at the airport aren’t flying things, Sena responds that it’s because they don’t have easy enough access to a large enough cargo plane that has a clean enough record that Hux has been taking care of.

Boombox asks how a lot of the folks in The Returners start, if they’ve always been doing that. Some of them have been working on the resistance for almost twenty years. He also asks what happens to those that have been captured, such as in Argentina. In those cases they’re near immediately killed if they’re too dangerous. Nero isn’t too happy at that news as the people they tried to keep alive may have been killed. Sena is suddenly rather suspicious, asking why they’re asking, Boombox explains that they’re mercenaries, they want to know what happens if they’re caught.

Aftermath

The group is conflicted. Boombox wants to do their mission while also wanting to go back south of Argentina to save the group that got captured. Electro says that they may have some problems depending on who they’re going to be fighting. Nero feels that all life is sacred and wants to save them. They’ve got three choices, either they can go to Argentina and figure out what happened to them, they could go to Cartagena and do the mission they were assigned, or they could try to do both and possibly fail. If they want to do both then they’d have to split the party and one half would need to find an alternative method of travel. They’re having a lot of trouble making a choice but decide that they may have to end up splitting the party as Boombox is too consumed by guilt and Apex isn’t about to leave her brother. But it all hinges on how much information Hux has managed to get from Argentina.

After Action Report (GM)

This was a really great (but short) session as we were missing a player and the others didn’t want to go to far without them.
