Previously . . .

There is a group of boys that are living at the monastery, some may have been conscripted or volunteered or just dropped off by their parents to make something of themselves. Their bunks are small and somewhat carved from into the walls of a larger central room. They’re made to work, do chores, farming, keeping things well. The group, the group of twelve, are assigned to hard manual labor with no aid of herd animals. If it can be done by hand then it is to be done by hand.

Some of the boys have been there for months and some have been there for years and are already well aware of how things go, though apparently only the blacksmith: Jian Wu, manages to do any good this day on the field. Halfway through there’s a call to quit with bells ringing. The group heads towards the Citadel as normal, across the valley where all the conscripts live.

When they get back to the courtyard, it’s full of other groups of conscripts. The minimum age is 8, the maximum age is 12 (or 14 for those quite talented). If they don’t manage to proceed to the next stage, they have the option of working in the valley or leaving. But once they become a full recruit, they are no longer allowed to leave the order. The head of the order tells everyone to meet in the large meeting hall. There’s numerous X chair that is available for everyone there, with people sitting down as asked looking at a bag by their chairs. Nongmin opens up the bag, seeing clothing and survival basics, and assumes they’re going to be sending the boys into a wilderness hike.

The elders are watching the boys, looking and inspecting them. Nongmin puts the bag back down claiming that he’s just trying to do his homework. After about 10 minutes the elders quiet everyone down and inform them it’s the day of choosing. Everyone has been supplied with new belongings and a pack to carry them in. They can either join the order or leave the valley. To join, they need Heart Jade Flowers from the top of a mountain. Most of the others of the creche pick up their pack and start to root through it. One of them just decides to leave the valley entirely as Jiao Ting just shoulders his pack and waits for the rest. It’s not like any of them have been to the mountain, or if any of them actually knows what it looks like except for Nongmin.

The creche split into a nearly even group of 5 and 6 as they head out. Most of the other groups are running up the pathways while the boys are going slow and surely as some aren’t used to hiking a long way. They get to the point where they have to climb up the trail. Nongmin topples backwards and hurts his tailbone and has to climb back upwards while everyone else needs to take their time. Several of the second half of the creche takes worse damage as they slide back down the hills while another member scampers back downwards and starts to heal people.

Several of the boys are entranced by the girl with the glowing healing hands while Jiao Ting keeps his head down and keeps moving forwards. Currently they’re in first place as they move up the mountain.

After Action Report (GM)

This session was short because real life interrupted. Overall, it was good and people started working out their character personalities and how their character’s functioned.
