Previously . . .

With Harlowe having been taken away, the rest of the group are trying to remain stealthy and getting an idea of where to go and move. What Warren told them is fairly faint and fuzzy like it was almost years ago instead of seconds ago and they’re not sure what they can really do. They could try to rescue Harlowe, they could just keep an eye on Harlowe, or they could search the base looking for wherever the experiment may be taking place. They make some glancing around to locate things, with machine gun nests still around Battery 216 with what appears to be supplies going in and around there. Harlowe, meanwhile, doesn’t seem to be making any largely overt moves. Flit and the rest feel a bit weird about the situation, as if the haze is falling away and they’re becoming more present in the current time. Fiona has some questions about if the donut cave is actually connected to the experiments. The concrete itself has been there for at least a year or more.

Harlowe, meanwhile, is looking towards a soldier who is eyeballing them. Not someone quite in charge of the situation. Harlowe, meanwhile, sits back and waits for someone with some actual rank to come in. Staring the man down before he bluffs his way through the higher rank’s questioning, he implies that he’s part of the team sent down to check out base security after the Philadelphia Project. A member of the OSS with a tiger team.

Fiona, having overheard it, goes to the others to get them organized out, stealing various clothes and uniforms and manages to disguise themselves as a proper tiger team with giving Harvey a uniform before hearing Harlowe asking for access to the PA system to alert the team to come in. They stroll into the building where they’re holding Harlowe with Gigajewel acting like a vapid brain with handcuffs off.

Harlowe ignores it and then tells Gigajewel to knock off the vapid routine before asking them to sound off about the area security. Fiona gives them a scathing report on the patrols mouthing off, Flit puts out their patrol routes and Harvey mentions them not having enough security. Modelling himself off of Ulrich, he starts dressing down the Lieutenant about being this lax after an inspection has just occurred and tells them to get him some secretaries from the pool and food from the mess hall. They scurry out to follow the orders.

Harlowe tells Harvey to find him the files for movements and trucks while Fiona looks for a concrete order for the donut hole. With the meals back, Harlowe dresses down the butterbars about the obviousness of their location.

The Lieutenant nervously offers to show them the security of the location which they accept. Once there, they note the machinegun nests are focused between keeping people out and keeping people in the location, focused on the doorway of the ammunition bunker for Battery 216. Going downstairs, they go through hallways to a large room with partitions and secretaries signing people in and out and a phone booth sized booth that a scientist goes into and fiddles with dials and lots of energy flows through it. Harvey is able to determine that it’s a kyberic energy detector, a very primitive detector with the energy actually coming off the man himself. Harlowe gets the Lieutenant to sign him through the area while Harvey gets DNA samples from multiple people in the area.

Harlowe asks Harvey if that machine is for detecting orgone energy, which he confirms and Harlowe asks the Lieutenant why it’s out in the middle of the open. The lieutenant nervously explains that if it was in the other room then it’d be going off constantly. They move onwards into the other room when one of the guards starts sniffing towards Fiona’s general direction which Harvey pushes off.

In the next room is what looks like a giant astrolabe with a very familiar glowing light in the center, a light that had previously been in the middle of a rather large donut hole. There’s wires running all around while the room is also being carved away further. In a separate area, they’ve got a more modern computer being cooled by its own AC area. They explain that they found the light and the familiar golden material, that it’s one of the only ways they’ve found to interact with the light and it seems to bend space, light, and perhaps even time. Flit, hearing this, starts detecting spatial distortions and the feeling of impending diarrhea comes to mind with a large amount of rough spatial tears being made. The Lieutenant explains they call the light the Needle, and that every time they put the needle down there’s a different reaction and they’re trying to determine why. When Fiona asks who deduced that, the Lieutenant offers to introduce them.

He heads over to a group of scientists that were talking and pulls over one of them. He introduces himself as Doctor Marinsfield. Harvey wants to question him, saying that he’s heard that Marinsfield is the one that invented the device, but he counters that there’s only a little portion of it that he invented, sending out a lot of technobabble BS that Harvey counters with scientific knowledge. Marinsfield is able to tell that Harrvey knows far more than what one should be able to and asks who they are and if they heard about it from Doctor Asher.

Harvey thinks back, knowing that there’s three scientists, they experimented on human beings and came up with a workable super soldier serum, Marinsfield, Justinius Asher, and a third doctor. The serum killed almost 89% of those injected, another 10% gained powers, and the remaining 1% had nothing at all happen to them, no powers, no death, just nothing. At the end, part of the serum formula was destroyed as one of them decided it wasn’t worth having all that power in one man’s hands. Attempting to recreate it, they used orgone energy to try to proliferate it through the body.

Harvey bluffs that he was working with Doctor Asher, while Marinsfield says it figures that he’d send someone to stop him but it’s too late. They figure they can transform at least one person a day at the current rate where they get the energy stored in and then used the stored energy on a person. Harvey looks over the machine.

Flit, not having any level of science really by any stretch, is mostly just watching and not directly interacting with the others. Just looking for suspicious behaviour in general before staring at the light. It’s the most interesting thing in the room, staring and staring for minutes before seeing an outline of an object within it spinning rapidly as it takes the form of a skull that a voice then speaks to her in his mind, asking for help. When she asks how, she gets a mental image of one of the control panels on the device and a very specific sequence of buttons and switches on the device. There’s plenty of people that are watching the group like a hawk.

Aftermath

Fiona looks over the area, determining that they’re trying to create more room in the confines of the area by expanding down and outwards. She asks one of the scientists where they got the material for the needle, they aren’t too sure where as it was one of the previous project helpers.

After Action Report (GM)

Today’s session was not exactly short, but we’ve instituted some new playing protocols that took a bit to get used to. A good session though and I think everyone had fun – they intimated as much. Overall, not a bad day’s work GMing.

Other Notes

None.

Soundtrack
