Previously . . .

The group has wrought confusion amongst their foes and the majority that haven’t fled the scene have been knocked out or down where Boombox is gushing about Hux’s communication jammer grenade and Electro suggests an electric in a bottle idea. They don’t have much in the way of being able to restrain the metahumans versus the mooks so Apex calls in Hot Lips to check the status of those knocked out, he also hands over some knockout drugs to Nero and suggests that he split himself into small parts to knock them out again if they start stirring. Nero starts conversing with himself and they suggest they want some coconut water before they get back to their task at hand. Electro, meanwhile, wraps Blockbuster with steel beams while Hux helps with duct tape. Hot Lips shows up with medical equipment and starts setting up some IV knockout drugs to keep them down whereupon one of the Nero duplicates decides to try the knockout drugs himself and knocks himself out for several minutes which causes him to turn into a blob where Hux immediately smushes him into a bag.

Boombox and Electro move into the boat with Apex, leaving Hux and Neros behind before Boombox gets distracted by Ruckus’s presence. Electro starts scanning for electronics items as they go through the boat. There’s no real presences inside until they find a container on the deck where they’ve got a whole on communications center which gets the attention of Hux over their comms. He goes on the boat and sits down, breaking through the encryption finding that they’re using the old satcoms from the mid-80s and early 90s creating a satnet. It’s only a node of the telecoms where he sets up his own wires into the network so he can keep track of what’s going on with them and informs his team of what he’s done before looking for other nodes.

They note that the nurse is absent, suggesting that they may have teleported away while Apex searches for what their opponents were up to. The only thing that was found was something in the system that was quantum encrypted that, once decrypted, give a string of letters and numbers with no context. While listening to the radios, Boombox notes a poem that was transmitted over:

Dos Lágrimas

Cuando nací

me pusieron dos lágrimas

en los ojos

para que pudiera ver

el tamaño del dolor de mi gente.

Or in English:

Two Tears

When I was born

they put two tears

in my eyes

so that I could see

the amount of pain in my people.

Nero starts looking into old legends and the poem finding that it was by Humberto Ak’abal and reads an article online suggesting that he’s important. They speak with AMA, Hux telling the skull that Boombox will give the skull the poem in Spanish but no response. There’s no more data to mine from the boat. It really just looks like they were using the place as a jumping off point for them as Hux discovers that there’s hundreds of nodes across South America alone and those are just the constant nodes, not counting the transient ones.

They decide to interrogate the mooks, taking two of them into separate rooms with Boombox talking to each one at the same time, Apex telling them what is going to happen, they better give the same answers. Neither of them give away anything or saying anything right until Boombox gets in there and starts listening to the mook’s heartrate as he speaks with Electro watching the group as Boombox interrogates. He does a combination of cold reading and fake psychic chicanery until he finally gets a Spanish word that translates to Returners in English. Boombox is also able to determine that the mooks are true believers. Hux gets Nero’s arm in the form of Angel Cakes and tries to intimidate the mook with the seemingly severed arm to no avail.

Aftermath

As they’ve got the word Returners, Boombox starts using names with Doctor Alverez and where he’s located. He gets a response saying that the Doctor is everywhere. Not that he teleports around a lot, just that he is everywhere.
